Recap: Port of Vancouver

On May 14, 2019, the CPABC Vancouver Chapter held their monthly networking breakfast at the Port of Vancouver Discovery Centre located at Canada Place.

Over 6O members, CPA candidates/students attended this event to connect with other colleagues over a freshly brewed cup of coffee and continental breakfast provided by the Chapter.

Victor Pang, CPA CA, CFO of the Port of Vancouver, provided commentary at the event and described the Port’s many activities.  The Port of Vancouver is Canada’s largest port –  supporting trade with more than 170 economies around the world.  It handles a diversified range of cargo across five business sectors: automobiles, breakbulk, bulk, container and cruise. And, in 2018, 147 million tonnes of cargo moved through the port with a combined value of over $200 billion.

The Port of Vancouver is also a leader in the area of sustainability.  According to its corporate website, as a sustainable port, it delivers economic prosperity through trade, maintains a healthy environment, and enables thriving communities through dialogue, shared aspirations and collective accountability.

The Port of Vancouver supports Canada’s economy and is an important contributor to the nation’s trade and local employment.  Thank you Victor for hosting us.
