Recap: 2018 CPABC Golf Tournament

High Gross Team (Scramble) – Barry Macdonald (CPABC Board Chair – second from right) presents trophy to Brian King, John Kenyon, Russ Wilson (chair of the CPABC Benevolent Fund) and Derek Johnson.

CPABC’s 59th Annual Golf Tournament was held on September 13, 2018 at the University Golf Club in Vancouver.  Over 100 members and their guests played this year in what is acknowledged as the longest consecutive running annual tournament hosted at the club.

Golfers took to the links to play 18 holes on this late summer day which initially threatened heavy rain but instead delivered a combination of overcast skies interrupted by periods of warm sunshine.

CPAs, true to the sport of golf, remained unconcerned about the inclement weather.

Team 5 – Kyle Chuang, Laura and John Nagy.

Returning to the clubhouse, players were rewarded with cold beverages paired with a buffet dinner that featured a carefully prepared duet of roast beef and baked salmon.

Ben Moxon CPA CA again served as tournament director, event organizer and emcee at the evening dinner – duties he has faithfully performed for the past 30 years as a volunteer.  Barry Macdonald FCPA FCA, chair of the CPABC provincial board, thanked Ben for his tremendous efforts.

The evening was capped off with the trophy presentation where winners were hailed for their accomplishments on the green.

Big smiles from all the winners who now realize that their names will forever be immortalized on various trophies which were awarded in the scramble or play your own ball categories.  And, in the tradition of this tournament, more aware of the unspoken expectation that they will return the following year to defend their titles (and, of course, to return the trophy!)

And, this year’s winner of the Robert McMurray FCPA FCA painting, presented by Lori Mathison CEO and President of CPABC, was Alan Leong (prize collected by a friend).  Bob, an accomplished accountant and artist, has generously donated a painting as a door prize at the golf tournament for as long as anyone (including Ben) can remember.

We look forward to seeing everyone next year when we will celebrate the 60th Annual Golf Tournament.   It will be a special and memorable event – not to be missed!
