CPABC Member Services held its inaugural Chapter Leaders Meeting on Friday February 20, 2015 in Vancouver at the elegant Rosewood Hotel Georgia. Twenty-seven chapter chairs and vice chairs from fourteen of the fifteen CPABC chapters attended this all day event. Christina Tipon, CPA, CA, and Denise Aitken, CPA, CGA represented the CPABC Upper Vancouver Island chapter.
The meeting was led by David Chiang, CPA, CA, Vice President of Member Services and started with a Brand Ambassador activity led by Vinetta Peek, CPA FCMA, CPABC Executive Vice President of Marketing and Business Development. Each of the four participant teams had to create a poster that defined the CPA brand.
This highly competitive activity was followed by a provincial update by Richard Rees, CPA, FCA, CEO of CPABC who arrived shortly after a meeting with the Minister of Finance Hon. Mike De Jong, earlier that same day. Several chapter leaders then shared stories of their recent successful events including social networking, professional development and community engagement activities.
In the afternoon, Jan Sampson, CPA, FCA, Executive Vice President for Member Engagement provided an overview of how CPA Canada and CPABC work collaboratively to advance the profession. She was followed by Li Zhang from CPA Canada who provided information about the national Community Connect – Financial Literacy program which has developed resources for members to use in local sessions at schools and community groups.
Finally, Chapter leaders brainstormed how to engage younger professionals, public practitioners, students & mentors and members through professional development. Many of the ideas will form the basis of upcoming Chapter events and activities.
