Session 1: Emerging Cybercrime Trends and Prevention Best Practices
This session will address the changing landscape of cybercrime. As we continue to expand our global connectivity though a proliferation of devices, cybercrime has become one of the main concerns facing organizations in Canada. From safeguarding personal information and preventing cyber theft, technology-related security is a top priority for everyone. This presentation will introduce attendees to the changing trends in cybercrime and provide insight into technology -related best practices to help prevent cybercrime.

Session 2: 21st Century Fraud Investigations using Innovation and Technology – BCIT Program Case Study
It’s a fact that fraud is changing and we need to change and keep up with the current trends. This session will address the changing landscape of fraud including cyber fraud and the need for a new investigative techniques that are both innovative and technology focused. From the latest in data analytics to new techniques in digital forensics, this presentation will introduce the audience to a new and innovative way at looking at how technology can aid in fraud investigations in the 21st Century.
Learning Objectives
This case study presentation is a 1 hour high level overview of modern fraud investigation techniques using innovation and technology.

Speaker Bio
Steve Wilson is the Managing Director of Hexigent Consulting Inc. He has been working in the cyber/digital forensics consulting industry with over 12 years of experience in providing digital forensics, cyber security, economic crime and risk mitigation strategic solutions to his clients. Combined with several professional and academic certifications, Steve epitomizes the industries best practices within the field of forensic technology. Some of his past clients come from a variety of industries including financial services, law enforcement, oil and gas, retail, legal services, government, transportation and education.
Steve is also actively involved in the community and is the current President of the Vancouver Chapter Association of Certified Fraud Examiners and a member of the Metro Vancouver Crime Stoppers Association and the BC Elder Financial Abuse Prevention Action Group. Steve has also developed the recently launched Graduate Certificate Program on Forensic Investigation of Fraud and Financial Crime at the British Columbia Institute of Technology. Steve also continues to assist in the development of post-secondary training opportunities and provides engaging presentations at industry events and conferences.
