Recap: 2019 Chapter Leaders Meeting

The 2019 CPABC Chapter Leaders Meeting was held in Vancouver and Richmond on June 20 and 21. All 16 chapters were represented at this year’s event with 32 chapter leaders attending.

The welcome reception and dinner was held at Hawksworth at Hotel Georgia.

Keynote speaker for the evening was Geoff Dodds CPA CA, incoming vice-chair of the CPABC board.  Geoff spoke about the emerging issues facing the profession including the changes to CPA education.  He thanked chapters for their support of CPA candidates and for hosting events for members including relevant chapter PD, social networking and community engagement.

The formal working session was held at the Fairmont Hotel at YVR.  The sessions included a refresher on IT security, brainstorming session on events to engage local members, supporting CPA Candidates with their education, and supporting the CPABC recruitment team in local high schools. CPABC staff attending included Jan Sampson, Simone Leonard, Lorena Christensen, David Chiang and Tierra Pawluk.

The meeting concluded with a Professional Development session on developing effective teams.

David Chiang CPA CA, CPABC’s vice-president member advice and programs, said “Chapter leaders play a critical role in successful local events.”  He added, “Thank you for your tremendous contribution.”
