CPABC’s Richmond/South Delta chapter had 12 CPA members, students and candidates volunteer by preparing personal tax returns at the Richmond Multicultural Community Services (RMCS) from March through to May 2018. Prior to the start of their shifts, the volunteers attended a two-hour orientation, hosted by RCMS coordinators, where they learned more about the tax clinic program and to meet fellow volunteers.
In total, CPABC’s Richmond/South Delta Chapter volunteered over 149.35 hours during tax season and helped prepare 141 returns! This is the first time that the Chapter partnered with a local not-for-profit organization to volunteer at the tax clinic. Since it was such a great success, the Chapter plans to make this a recurring event every year!
CPABC’s Richmond/South Delta Chapter would like to thank CPABC for providing the volunteers with a complimentary copy of “The Personal Tax Planner Guide 2017-2018” that the volunteers were able to use as a great reference guide. The volunteers have expressed that helping out at the tax clinic was a rewarding experience as they were able to apply their professional skills to give back to their community and be able to help the community members fully utilize their taxable deductions and credits. Chapter Chair, Jacqueline Ho CPA, CGA, is pictured below working hard on helping a community member with their tax return. She is having a great time at the tax clinic and is looking forward to helping more people out!
