Understanding the dynamics, legislation, and trends affecting the workplace cannot only make one more effective but it can provide better perspective on this critical function in an organization. Consequently, in addition to discussing the most important components of labour legislation and its application in the workplace, participants will have a chance to discuss, share, and gain insights on the most recurring HR issues organizations face and how to address them from a practical perspective

This activity is tailored to CPA’s, HR practitioners, managers, team leaders, and anyone interested in getting a practical HR perspective to ensure not only compliance with labour standards and legislation but also supporting the organization in its strategic thrust and objectives.
1. Overview, discussion, and practical guidelines to identify and address the most recurring HR issues in their organization.
2. Review of the most important labour legislation and their daily implications for the workplace.
3. Overview of future HR issues and trends impacting the workplace.
The main do’s and don’ts of the on-boarding process, training and development, health and safety, bullying and harassment, duty to accommodate, handling of resignations and terminations, among others
Key workers’ and employer’s rights and responsibilities under the Employment Standards in BC, Human Rights, and other standard HR practices.
FORMAT OF THE ACTIVITY
The workshop includes discussion of real life cases both in small and large group settings, and a Q&A session.
SPEAKER’S BIO: ENRIQUE ARCE, CPA, CMA, MBA
Enrique has 2.5 years experience as a Human Resources Manager of a Lower Mainland-based IT and Engineering company with 250 employees and $1million monthly payroll combined with over 10 years of senior management experience in private and public companies in different industries and countries. He is a Certified Professional in Human Resources and an Instructor in the School of Business at Capilano University and the CPA PREP Course (Performance Management Module).
