CPABC held its annual Chapter Leaders Meeting in Vancouver on June 15th and 16th which brought together 27 chapter chairs, vice-chairs and Profession Development chairs representing 15 of CPABC’s 16 chapters from across the province. The CPABC Pacific Northwest Chapter reps were Khalie Genereaux CPA CMA and Crystal Sawatzky CPA CGA.
The meeting provided opportunities for chapter leaders to share their experiences, connect with other chapter leaders, brainstorm ideas for new activities and to receive training on how to engage and enroll members at the local level.
The gathering started with a reception and dinner at the Vancouver Club on June 15. Chapter leaders were joined by several Financial Literacy Area Leaders and Practitioner Forum Chairs to create networks among various CPABC volunteers. Keynote speaker at dinner was Barry Macdonald FCPA FCA the incoming vice-chair of the provincial CPABC board.
The formal Chapter Leaders Meeting was on June 16 and included presentations by various CPABC staff: David Chiang CPA CA, vice-president member services, who emceed the day; Nicola Mclaren, CPA CA, PD Program Director, unveiling the recently launched Chapter PD Program, Lorena Christiansen CPA CA, director business development who led a discussion about Recruitment and Practical Experience Requirements, and the final session was on Leading Chapter Engagement with PD instructor Teresa Comey.
Chapter leaders support and guide local volunteers at CPABC’s 16 chapters across the province. The mandate of chapters is to provide members, students and candidates with local networking through social and professional development opportunities, organizing community activities and assisting with recruitment and to assist students with their career development and education.
Each chapter has an official website which lists the members of the chapter board as well an online calendar of events. These websites can be found on the CPABC website under Members > Chapters. To volunteer, email the chapter chair to express your interest, or simply come out and participate in one of your chapter’s upcoming events.
Also a thank you to Tierra Pawluk who managed and helped organized the event. Tierra provides administrative, communication and promotional support to the chapters. Some additional photos from the event are shown below.
