CPABC Canucks Game Night
Over 120 members, students, candidates and their guest attended the February 28 CPABC Canucks Game Night event which featured the Vancouver Canucks vs. Detroit Red Wings. This sold out event was jointly hosted by CPABC and the CPABC North Shore/Sunshine Coast Chapter.
Attendees enjoyed a pre-game reception at the Party Room which overlooks the rink in the recently opened SportsBar which provided an opportunity to network with fellow hockey fans. Faranak Leilaby, CPA CGA, chair of the North Shore/Sunshine Coast Chapter provided opening remarks and introduced guest speaker Todd Kobus CPA CA, executive vice-president operations and CFO of Canucks Sports and Entertainment.
Prior to joining the Canucks, Kobus was project director at the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games and vice-president finance and CFO for the Grizzlies NBA franchise in both Vancouver and Memphis.
There were many door prizes which included a variety of Canucks and CPABC sportswear, two highly prized hockey jersies, and two pairs of tickets to upcoming games which were generously donated by the Canucks. The hockey jersey for correctly guessing the final score of the game goes to Adam Chu.
Thank you to the chapter volunteers and CPABC staff (Tierra Pawluk and David Chiang CPA CA) who assisted with the registration table and prize draw.
Attendees then headed to their seats to watch the Red Wings take an early lead scoring two goals in the first period. In the second period, the Canucks roared back with Marcus Granlund netting the first home team goal of the night. Reid Boucher followed with a goal in the third to tie the game and force overtime. An unfortunate penalty gave the Red Wings the advantage they needed to score the winning overtime goal ending the game 3-2 for Detroit.
