On January 23, 2019, the CPABC North Shore/Sunshine Coast Chapter, in collaboration with CPABC, held their annual Hockey Night Social Networking Event.
Over 80 CPA members, students, candidates and their guests attended this hockey game which featured the Vancouver Canucks vs. Carolina Hurricanes.
Attendees enjoyed appetizers and beverages at a pre-game reception at the Rogers Arena Sports Bar overlooking home ice. Attendees had a chance to connect with other sports fans, build their own custom hot dogs, and select their favorite beverage from a variety of choices.
Attendees also had several chances to win great prizes including: gift cards, a Canucks t-shirt and two hockey jerseys.
The lucky grand prize winner was Bruce McLeod (see below) who won a team-signed jersey. Thank you to Crowe Mackay LLP, Canucks Sports & Entertainment and the Chapter for contributing these great door prizes.
While much fun was had at the pre-game reception, the game was less fun for the home crowd. The Canucks were blown away by the Hurricanes in a 5-2 loss on home ice.
The scoreless first period was followed by an intense second period that saw all the game’s goals scored in less than 20 minutes of play. Josh Leivo and Sven Baertschi were the only two Canuck goal scorers for the evening. And, several unfortunate penalties including a game misconduct provided the break in the defenses that allowed the Hurricanes to roar through with 5 goals.
Thank you to everyone for coming out in high spirits and, despite the loss, attendees continued to show that they will always be true Canuck fans.
Special thank you to our event organizers Faranak Leilaby CPA, CGA (pictured below) and Raji Dhaliwal CPA pictured above for organizing another great event.
CPABC Vancouver Chapter will be hosting a game night featuring the Vancouver Canadians (June 28) and the CPABC Surrey/Langley/N.Delta Chapter the Vancouver Whitecaps (May 10). Both events will be in collaboration with CPABC. Watch for details which will be posted in the chapter websites and e-news. Games are open to all members, students and candidates and their guests and are family friendly. All are encouraged to wear their favourite team jerseys.
