Spring Chapter PD – Castlegar

CPABC West Kootenay Chapter invites you to the upcoming Chapter Spring PD Day Event on Thursday, May 23rd, 2019.

Session 1: Exceptional Excel Skills
This session will explore some critical excel skills such as V-lookUP, pivot tables, filters, conditional formatting and other skills to become an Excel wizard.

Session 2: Smart Social Media
This session will explore how to use social media as a business owner, both for self-promotion, and as a method for due diligence investigations.

Session 3: Ethical Dilemmas – the Thick Grey Line

This course provides participants with opportunities to evaluate ethical scenarios in a variety of contexts that are realistic and representative of the CPA demographic (including industry, not-for-profit, public sector and public practice). Participants will increase their competence and confidence in interpreting and applying the CPA Code of Professional Conduct to real-life workplace challenges.

Brenda M. Wiest, MA, Director of Educational Services (Exceptional Excel)
Brenda has a Master of Arts in Learning and a Technology Degree from Royal Roads University and utilizes her knowledge, education and enthusiasm to provide relevant training to individuals and the business community. Since 1992, she has embraced the entrepreneurial world by owning and operating a business, services of which include corporate training, financial management, and bookkeeping. Brenda’s  knowledge of finance, entrepreneurship, business, and computer software and technology have allowed her to create and deliver effective training, one-on- one or in large groups.

Jessica Lunn, Mayor of Slocan, Rural- revitalization expert (Smart Social Media)
Jessica has strong roots in Kootenay region, having grown up in the Slocan Valley. Jessica is passionate about rural community and personal development. She holds a BA in Communications (SFU) and is working towards a certificate in public administration through the University of Victoria. Click here for an extensive biography.

Mark Ostry CPA, CGA (Ethics)
MARK OSTRY, CPA, CGA, has worked in public practice since 1983. Early in 2002 Mark established a sole proprietorship in Westbank. He has experience in all levels of public practice, largely serving small-to-medium-sized enterprises. Mark has presented a variety of professional development courses over the years, including practice management, ethics and taxation.
