Privacy Law Update | 8:00 am – 10:00 am
The objective of this is to provide up-to-date information about Canadian private sector privacy legislation, Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation, and recent enforcement action of both regulations. It will also provide an overview of how accountants may be impacted by public sector privacy and access to information legislation.
Seminar Leader: TAMARA HUNTER, LL.B. is a member of DLA Piper’s litigation group. She practises in the areas of freedom of information and privacy law, administrative law and professional regulation law. She acts for a variety of professional regulatory bodies on matters involving registration, professional disciplinary proceedings and related litigation, representing both private sector and public sector organizations. Tamara has been named by the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia as a qualified lawyer approved to act on its behalf in matters relating to privacy protection law, administrative law and access to information law.
Real Business Ethics and the CPA Mindset | 10:15 am – 12:15 pm
The course will develop your ethical mindset, explain the breadth of business ethics today, help you understand where ethical risks may lie, and provide you with ideas and tools to integrate business ethics into your daily work and professional responsibilities.

Seminar Leader: MARK OSTRY, CPA, CGA, has worked in public practice since 1983. Early in 2002 Mark established a sole proprietorship in Westbank. He has experience in all levels of public practice, largely serving small-to-medium-sized enterprises. Mark has presented a variety of professional development courses over the years, including practice management, ethics and taxation.
GST Update | 12:45 pm – 2:45 pm
This session will provide an update of GST issues and changes over the past year. This seminar is relevant to CPAs who want to keep current on GST issues. Participants will refresh and review as a group the changes in the past year in the legislation, administration and audit processes related to GST.
Topics covered will include:
• Changes in legislation in the past years
• Court decisions
• Administrative Policy/memos etc.
• Audit Issues
Prerequisite: Must have some understanding of GST to be able to understand the implications of the legislation and administrative changes and audit issues discussed.
Seminar Leader: CHARLOTTE HOGGARD, CPA, CGA, CFI, is President of T. Charlotte Hoggard Inc, and has been dealing with sales tax issues, including GST, since 1990. Her involvement started with CRA and in 1999 she left to continue helping clients with the sales tax in public practice. She assists clients with the various implications of sales tax, including GST, HST and PST, both on an advisory and practical basis, such as representing them to CRA. Charlotte has been a member of the board of various non-profit and charitable organizations.
