Chapter Event: Paper Excellence Skookumchuk Pulp Mill Tour

CPABC’s East Kootenay Chapter invites you to celebrate Paper Excellence Skookumchuk Pulp Mill’s 50th Anniversary with a tour. This is a great opportunity to learn about Paper Excellence’s contribution to the East Kootenay region while connecting with fellow CPA members, students and candidates. Lunch will be served at NOON sharp. Please advise of any food allergies in the special requirements box in the registration form.

We will organize three groups of six CPA members/student/candidates for the tour. The first 18  to register will secure a spot on the tour. An alternate list will be maintained if there are more than 18 registrants.

Orientation: A safety and site orientation will take place prior to the tour.

Transportation: Do you wish to Ride Share? If yes please advise if you will be able to provide a vehicle and indicate number of passengers you can transport. Please show your phone number in case we need to contact you.

Environment: This is an Industrial Tour with a lot of walking outside and inside the pulp mill buildings and grounds. It is a noisy environment.

Safety/Dress: Please dress appropriately for the tour i.e. weather, sturdy footwear. Safety supplies will be provided i.e. hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, safety gloves and vests.

ABOUT Paper Excellence – Skookumchuck Pulp Mill

Skookumchuck produces 650 metric tonnes per day of premium grade softwood pulp for markets in North America and Asia, where it is used to make quality paper products. It currently employs 290 employees.

Opened in 1968 by Crestbrook Forest Industries, the mill was acquired by Tembec Inc. in 1999. Paper Excellence Canada Holdings Corp purchased the mill from Tembec in 2013.

Paper Excellence Group is a privately owned group of companies in the pulp and paper industry. Headquartered in Vancouver, Canada, the Group has close to 2 million tonnes of pulp production capacity, 550,000 tonnes of paper production capacity through 4 mills (5 with this acquisition) in Canada, 2 mills in France and 1 mill in Germany. Paper Excellence mills are strategically located in close proximity to ports, which keeps its distribution costs low.
