Recap: 2018 Chapter Leaders Meeting

On June 21st and 22nd, CPABC held its annual Chapter Leaders Meeting at the beautiful Sutton Place Hotel, located in the heart of downtown Vancouver, BC. The event brought over 30 chapter chairs, vice-chairs, community and candidate support volunteers, representing all 16 chapters from across the province.

The meeting provided opportunities for chapter leaders to share their experiences, connect with other chapter leaders, brainstorm ideas for new activities and to receive training on how to lead effective meetings.

The gathering started with a reception and dinner at the Sutton Place Hotel on June 21st where leaders had the opportunity to network with each other. Chapter leaders were also joined by CPABC staff and Barry Macdonald FCPA FCA , the incoming chair of the provincial CPABC board, who was the keynote speaker of the evening. This was also a great opportunity for leaders to ask Barry questions in an informal setting or to converse one-on-one.

The formal Chapter Leaders Meeting was on June 22nd and included presentations by various CPABC staff: David Chiang CPA CA, vice-president member services, who emceed the day, Stella Lam-Leung CPA CA, director of registration and privacy officer who did an update on Privacy and Canadian Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL), Kerri Wilcox, vice-president of external affairs and communications who led the “Tell Your CPA Story – Connecting to your designation” activity, Candice Lubieniecki, project manager for ACAF recruitment & market development and Sheila Cheung, student recruitment officer who presented on the ACAF program and student recruitment, Jan Sampson FCPA, FCA  executive vice- president, member and student experience who presented on volunteerism and the final session was on Leading Effective Meetings with PD instructor Tammy Towill FCPA, FCMA.

Chapter leaders support and guide local volunteers at CPABC’s 16 chapters across the province. The mandate of chapters is to provide members, students and candidates with local networking through social and professional development opportunities, organizing community activities, assisting with recruitment and supporting students with their career development and education.
