CPABC’s leadership is excited to visit your chapter this fall for the 2018 Member Engagement Tour (MET). Members of the board executive, supported by senior staff members will be participating in the tour. Members, students, and candidates are encouraged to attend to receive key updates on the profession and to connect with CPABC’s leadership.
Throughout October and November 2018, the MET will be touching down in 20 locations across BC. The tour will feature a special presentation that addresses:
- An overview of BC’s economic performance, upcoming economic trends, and challenges and opportunities for business.
- How technology and digital transformation are affecting CPAs, and how the profession is supporting members through this transformation.
- The role CPAs play in contributing to volunteerism, leadership, and good governance within the profession.
New: This year, each tour stop will acknowledge local-area members who are celebrating 10-, 25-, and 50-year membership milestones, allowing CPABC to celebrate its longstanding members. SESSION 1: Real Business Ethics and the CPA Mindset
The course will develop your ethical mindset, explain the breadth of business ethics today, help you understand where ethical risks may lie, and provide you with ideas and tools to integrate business ethics into your daily work and professional responsibilities.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
Any CPA who is interested in encouraging an ethics-based culture in their organization.
Topics covered will include:
- Essential blocks of business ethics for a CPA, building upon the ethical principles of the CPABC Code of Professional Conduct
- Scope of business ethics today
- Integrating business ethics into your workplace
- Case studies to apply ethical principles
PREREQUISITE: None | LEVEL: Introductory | CPD: 2 Hours
SESSION 2: Ethical Dilemmas: The Thick Grey Line
This course provides participants with opportunities to evaluate ethical scenarios in a variety of contexts that are realistic and representative of the CPA demographic (including industry, not-for-profit, public sector and public practice).
Participants will increase their competence and confidence in interpreting and applying the CPA Code of Professional Conduct to real-life workplace challenges.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
This course will appeal to members who enjoy an actively engaging CPD setting using small group discussions and interactive polling to analyze real-life ethical scenarios.The two-hour format will also appeal to members who choose to fulfill their ethics CPD requirement in smaller segments.
The course begins with a brief refresher of the CPA Code of Professional Conduct, followed by team-based evaluations of ethical scenarios and potential actions to determine where the line of acceptable behaviour is crossed. Small group discussions will be followed by larger group debriefs.
Reasonable familiarity with the CPA Code of Professional Conduct (or a legacy Code) is expected; participants will benefit from having gone through a prior CPA ethics course, but it is certainly not mandatory.
