Over 140 members, candidates, students and their guests attended the Burnaby/New Westminster Chapter’s Annual Chapter Event (ACE) on Saturday February 3, 2018.  The luncheon was held at Lee Garden Seafood Restaurant on Kingsway in Burnaby. For many attendees this was their first Chapter event.

The ACE provided an occasion for an early celebration of the Chinese Lunar New Year. This year, Chinese New Year’s Day falls on February 16.

On that date, the Year of the Rooster will come to a close and the Year of the Dog will officially commence.

The chapter’s lunar new year theme was the perfect backdrop.  Han Shu, CPA CA, Chapter chair, emceed the proceedings.  After brief introductions, each chapter committee provided an overview of their activities.  Han thanked the volunteers for their dedication and also expressed the board’s appreciation to members, candidates and students for their support of the Chapter’s activities.  Because of this support, the chapter was able to subsidize the ACE from their PD surplus.

The featured speaker at the luncheon was Mark Kennedy FCPA FCMA who operates a local accounting practice and is currently also the chair of the Sole Practitioners’ Forum – Burnaby.  Mark discussed recent tax changes affecting private corporations, reviewed new income splitting rules and provided a few tax planning tips.

After his presentation,  several prizes were handed out by the Chapter including a grand prize of a pair of tickets to the March 2 home game between the Vancouver Canucks and Nashville Predators.

The game tickets were won by Jessie Yu – a regular attendee at many chapter events.
