$45 – $85

United States Of America Tax Form 1040 With Calculator, Dollars

Session 1:  Introduction to US Federal Corporate Taxation
As many Canadian businesses have expanded their operations into the US, it is important for practitioners to have a general understanding of U.S. federal corporate tax issues.  This course will provide participants with a general overview of the US federal tax system.

Topics include:

  • Taxation of residents and non-residents
  • Basic computation of taxable income/common book-tax differences
  • Overview of depreciation and amortization
  • Filing deadlines, administration and information reporting

Session 2: Making Your Scenario the Best Case: An Active Approach to Business Ethics
10:15am – 12:15pm

There is an old wise saying that goes like this, “What is permissible may not be beneficial.” We can also use the same philosophy, apply it to the world of business ethics and formulate a statement that goes like this, “What is legal may not be ethical.”

What is the difference between lawful and ethical? One does not need to look very hard for examples that tell us there are differences: some say any coffee that is not fair trade is unethical, some vegans would say eating animal meat is unethical, other groups say medically assisted dying is unethical, the list goes on.

So what is the difference? Why can something be legal and not be ethical? If the institution of laws are initiated by a consensual reaction towards an action that is perceived as unethical, how did they arrive to a conclusion that the action is unethical? What’s their ethical ‘compass?’

In this seminar we will explore the origin of ethics and how ethics are developed within a person, dissect and critically engage with our own existing ethical compass, how to understand your client’s (corporate or individual) ethical compass and why it is important to understand and communicate clearly the ethical environments that we find ourselves in so that we can pro actively create scenarios that will consistently be the best case within our own business operations, professional environments and client relationships.
