Session 2 – Accountants And Their Regulator
CPAs and their Regulator! Practice Wisely!
No CPA sets out to have to deal with their regulator over a violation of their professional act, bylaws and rules, or worse become a disciplinary statistic. Some CPAs, however, find themselves corresponding more often than they need to with their Regulator than others.
A number of regulatory issues or disciplinary proceedings could have been avoided if the CPA had implemented strong practice management habits early in their careers or followed a common sense approach to practicing. It is never too late to practice wisely!
With today’s economic challenges, complexities of practices and client demands, many recently licensed as well as experienced CPAs are faced with difficult issues and incessant demands by their clients. The training received in University, however, may not sufficiently prepare CPAs, young and experienced for the ethical and related business challenges encountered and CPAs become vulnerable to regulatory/disciplinary complaints.
This seminar aims to assist you in reducing the risk of your facing regulatory issues or disciplinary proceedings by reviewing top disciplinary and regulatory issues facing CPAs by looking at some recent cases and dissecting these situations to see what may have gone wrong. We will look at conflicts of interest, ethical dilemmas, fiduciary duties, money laundering and more.
