Event Recap: Catfight ends with Ticats beating Lions

On September 22, 2017, over 100 CPABC members, students, candidates and their guests came out to watch the BC Lions take on the Hamilton Tigercats.

Both teams entered BC Place Stadium with lukewarm win-loss statistics making this an important game for both teams’ prospects of securing a coveted, albeit near bottom spot, in the 2017 Grey Cup playoff.

The Lions, not having lost a home game to the Ti-cats since 2011, enjoyed home field advantage. However, fans were clearly apprehensive knowing that several key players were recently side-lined by serious injuries.

Facing the Lions on the other side of the field, the Ti-cats showed their confidence having won their past two games.  These critical wins were vital in keeping their slim chances of landing a playoff spot  in the realm of possibility.

The lead bounced back and forth like an errant fumbled football.  The tight game remained tied at half-time.  Early in the second half, the crowd roared loudly when the Lions scored a touchdown to take the lead.  This lead held strong until a Ti-cats touchdown late in the final minutes of the 4th quarter evened the score.  A field goal put the visiting Ti-cats ahead to close the game 24:23.

Despite this very close loss, CPABC attendees enjoyed networking with each other in the exclusive Club Orange (Edgewater Lounge) overlooking the end zone.  A seemingly endless supply of sliders and chicken wings kept everyone well fed.

Mike Pollard CPA CGA was the winner of the official Lions team-signed football helmet.

The next professional sports networking event will be with the Canucks in early 2018.  Game date will be announced in upcoming chapter emails.
