BNW Chapter Newsletter – August/September 2017
After weeks of smokey air, we are happy to see that the sunshine and the beautiful blue skies are back! However, we are still aware of the current wildfire situation in B.C., and our hearts and support goes out to all residents who are still being impacted by the fires and also to the firefighters who are still on the front lines protecting their homes.
August has been busy for the CPABC Burnaby/New Westminster Chapter – and we mean “good” busy.
Burnaby Village Museum – August 12
The first event was on August 12, approximately 50 members, students, candidates and their guests came out to the Annual Chapter Summer Picnic event at scenic Burnaby Village Museum.
Burnaby Village Museum is surrounded by historical architecture, museums and home to the famous train station. Upon arrival, attendees were directed to a large beautiful green space where picnic tables, covered in red and white themed tablecloths in celebration of Canada 150, were already set up with delicious food and drinks.
As this was the first social event hosted by the new 2017/2018 Burnaby/NW Chapter Board, board members took the opportunity to introduce themselves to attendees before commencing the festivities.
Thank you to all the volunteers, without them we simply couldn’t achieve what we have achieved today!
Throughout the event, a silent auction was underway in support of the BC Wildfires. Jessica Liu CPA, CGA, Chapter PD Chair, and her team graciously donated two Chapter PD course passes for the auction which were definitely one of the most popular items on the table.
After everyone was happy with full bellies, attendees divided into two teams to play some fun outdoor activities. We played tug of war and human tic tac toe! People were jumping up and down, cheering with excitement as the teams were competitive and continuously strategized their game. Planning meetings are in our accountants’ blood!
Vancouver Whitecaps – August 23
On August 23, over 100 members, together with family and friends, attended the Whitecaps vs. Sounders game at BC Place. Keynote speaker of the night was Greg Anderson, Whitecaps’ vice-president of soccer operations. To read more about the Whitecaps Game event, jointly hosted between the Chapter and CPABC, visit “Event Recap: Whitecaps Tie Sounders”.
Thank you so much for you support and interest in our Chapter. Our success is a reflection of your support. Some of you may have just discovered the Chapter for the first time. Others have been regular attendees. We are happy to have all of our new and regular attendees come out and enjoy Chapter events.
